Fiji Paradise
Story behind the shot
In the middle of the South Pacific near Kadavu Island in Fiji, there is a small island offshore that the locals call “Two Trees”, because the only inhabitants are, well, two trees. On the last afternoon of my 2012 trip to Kadavu, we anchored near Two Trees and I set out to photograph the shallow reefs near the island, where the white sand reflects the sunlight, giving the water an amazing sapphire blue color. I was able to capture this moment during the short window of time when the water is clear and calm, with the afternoon sunlight streaming down through it, just before the strong currents came from the changing tide.
