Red and white Christmas Tree Worm
Story behind the shot
A Christmas tree worm (Spirobranchus spinosus), peering out from its home in the coral. These tiny creatures are very shy, and when startled by movement (or bright camera flashes), they pull into their tube and disappear from sight, making them difficult to photograph close-up. You’ve only got one shot then they’re gone! This photograph was taken near Kadavu Island in Fiji.
