Soft Coral on the Hirokawa Maru

Soft Coral on the Hirokawa Maru

Story behind the shot

Sometimes the most beautiful things can be found in the strangest of places. I photographed this gorgeous soft coral on the deck of the massive Hirokawa Maru - a Japanese transport ship that was run aground and bombed in November of 1942 as a casualty of World War II. The wreck now sits in fairly shallow water just off the shore of Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands.
